NatureWalks, Trails and Wildlife Walkers and cyclists will appreciate the many footpaths, waymarked trails, cycle routes and forest trails within nature reserves, community woodlands, farms, plantations and native woodland. Local wildlife includes red squirrels and buzzards. For hill walkers and climbers Ben Lawers (1,214m) is the highest mountain in the Central Highlands. There are other Munros in the area. Ben Lawers is owned by the National Trust for Scotland and is home to alpine plants as well as Ptarmigan, Red Deer, Mountain Hare and the Common Lizard.

The woodland has footpaths, interpretation leaflets, picnic tables and car park (NN344292). There is newly planted native woodland (mainly Scot's Pine and Downy Birch), acid grassland, heath, mire and a small kettle-hole lochan. Read More

Ben Lui National Nature Reserve - Tyndrum
Park your car at Tyndrum Community Woodland (NN344292). There is a long walk in along Glen Cononish until you get to the reserve (NN266264). Boots, full waterproofs, map and compass are required. Read More

Open water and species-rich wet meadow gives the opportunity to spot Cormorant and Goldeneye ducks and plants. Read More

Acharn Forest - Killin
Cycleway/footpath (start at NN570322 opposite the war memorial at the entrance to Killin). Conifer plantation, Birch woodland and open rides. Birds include Bullfinch, Goldcrest, Coal Tit, Great Spotted Woodpecker and Woodcock. Read More

Queen Elizabeth Forest Park - Trossachs
A large part of the wider Trossachs is covered by extensive tracts of forest. Much of this forest lies in The Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. The forest park covers 50,000 acres of land consisting of a mixture of commercial forest, semi-natural and ancient woodland, and open space and is managed by Forest Enterprise. Read More

Ben Lawers - Central Scotland
