There is a small island at the St Fillans end of Loch Earn. Once the seat of Chiefs of the MacNeishes, Neish Island is a "crannog" (man made island) that once supported Loch Earn Castle. There was, and is still detectable today, an underwater causeway that allowed those who knew the route to get to the island without the use of a boat. The MacNeishes occupied the castle from the 13th century until disaster struck in the 17th century when they were virtually wiped out by MacNabs.

Achray House Hotel has its own jetty and guests can enjoy Water Skiing and fishing on Loch Earn. For the adventurous (or experienced) watersports enthusiast ski lessons and tows are available 6 miles along the loch. Private lessons are available by arrangement from Achray. The loch is stocked with brown and rainbow trout and permits cost just £6 a day. Fish from the lochside or from boats which can be rented from Drummond Boat Hire.
