  • Amidst wonderful scenery the Kings House is a small, friendly, family-run hotel. The striking historic building faces towards Balquhidder, Loch Voil, and the setting sun. The King James Lounge bar is adjacent to the dining areas. The popular and traditional Rob Roy Bar has an open fire. Both bars boast a hand-picked selection of the finest malt whiskies. A well-balanced bar menu is complemented by a snack menu and take away service where there is a strong emphasis on local produce such as trout, beef, lamb and venison.

The Kings House occupied an important position dating back to 1571 as it was once the hunting lodge of King James VI, set firmly in the clan lands of the MacLarens whose connection with the area dates back to the 12th century.

Another famous resident in the parish of Balquhidder was the outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor who ran his cattle business from various locations in the area.

In the wake of the failure of "The 45" rising the name of the Kings House was bestowed on the building by the virtue of the fact that a garrison was billeted here during construction of the military roads network, under the supervision of Generals Wade and Caufield.
