Walks & Trails

Walks, Trails and Wildlife Walkers and cyclists will appreciate the many footpaths, waymarked trails, cycle routes and forest trails within nature reserves, community woodlands, farms, plantations and native woodland. Local wildlife includes red squirrels and buzzards.

For hill walkers and climbers Ben Lawers (1,214m) is the highest mountain in the Central Highlands. There are other Munros in the area. Ben Lawers is owned by the National Trust for Scotland and is home to alpine plants as well as Ptarmigan, Red Deer, Mountain Hare and the Common Lizard.

Ben Lawers - Central Scotland

Ben Shian - Strathyre

Start at the car park on the south side of the village of Strathyre. Take the Forest Enterprise signed footpath over the bridge and up to the tarred road. 100m past the village school, turn left on to the hill footpath. Climb quite steeply through tall conifers for 300m to a forestry road. Read More

Easy walk on low level path and well made up former railway trackbed. 5 Miles. Read More

Roaming with Rob Roy

Leave the Strathyre Forrestry Commission car park by its entrance, turn left and follow the A84 road north through Strathyre. Pass by the village shop and a bus stop and then turn left on a minor road opposite the Munro Hotel. Read More

Loch Earn to Loch Lubnaig by Glen Ample

This is a straight forward family walk on a track which has been used for generations of travellers, although rough in places the route is always clear. It begins on the South Loch Earn road. Read More

Kirkton Pass - Balquhidder

At Balquhidder Church follow route until you reach the public water supply enclosure. Go straight on, ignore all junctions to left or right. Soon the rocky face of Creag an Eireannaich (Rock of the Irishman) comes into view ahead. Read More

To appreciate the magnificent Braes o' Balquhidder and to get a lovely view its worth the short walk to the top of the Manse Rock, or Creag an Tuirc (rock of the boar). Read More
